In 1910 Cecil Pond of "Aldon", Remuera and Ida Smith of "Brompton", Onehunga were married at St Peter's church in Onehunga. They travelled by train to the Waikato village of Hinuera, to embark on the adventure of converting a thouand acres of swamp and teatree scrub into farmland. They named the estate "Warlingham" after a village in Surrey, England.
